Every Mario platformer, 2D or 3D, seems to reinvent itself happily to some extent, doubling the unique pleasures they bring me. Super Mario Bros. Wonder continues this trend and has a very appropriate name because it is simply full of wonders. Literally wonderful! Each Image radiates Joy, from its Bright Colors, passing omnipresent talking Flower of Blumenreichs never Words of Encouragement that is not found , for You, Dozens of Scenes of running and jumping, by unpredictable and often grimacing Wundereffekte and more often be modified than not, the Antics of Mario himself. Whether you are alone or with three Friends, there is a lot to love about Super Mario Bros Wonder.
The miracle immediately attracts attention. It dazzles with its typical and welcome use of a variety of colors, with a particular emphasis on vibrant sapphires, reds, greens and yellows. But it is especially impressive in motion. With apologies to Yoshi’s Island, it seems that they would imagine a suitable sequel to Super Mario World if it were made in 2023 instead of 1995.
The animations are the undeniable highlight here: Mario grabs his hat when he falls into pipes, the creatures’ eyes bulge in panic as they flee from a plumber chasing in horror, the Goombas have snot bubbles on their noses during nap time, The elephant Mario pushes his great round body into chain pipes and tries-awkwardly – There are so many more! These touches go a long way in bringing Mario’s first trip to the kingdom of flowers to life.
What is the kingdom of flowers? It’s a neighbor of the famous Mushroom Kingdom, and it turned out to be a refreshing environment, mainly because it brought Mario so many new and unique enemies to stomp on. In terms of the story, you can already guess: a visiting Mario, of course, is involved in another Bowser caper, because the reptile uses the miraculous powers of the country to merge with the main castle of the kingdom and make life difficult for its inhabitants. As always, the history paper (Mario) is thin, and you know that you will action Bowser Junior along the way.
Power of flowers
But that doesn’t leave a cloud hanging over the flower kingdom, because the dozens of stages in six main worlds – as well as the Flower Islands Hub, which contains its own stages– offer so many different looks and wild hooks that the typically memorable story simply doesn’t matter. Most levels contain at least two miraculous ones, one of which is hidden at the end and the other somewhere inside. To get to this hidden seed, you usually have to find a miracle flower – sometimes hidden in blocks, bad guys or in secret areas – that allows something unexpected to happen. Unfortunately, I’ll take the liberty of You, most of the best, not to show, but Mario could be the one rolling Quill Ball transform, or the Device could, from a Top-Down Perspective or Mario and his Enemies could be Tintensilhouetten transform, or he could be a Goomba transform, not to jump or action, or he could be a dance party give. You never know what’s going to happen next. As such, I was looking forward to the miraculous effects on each scene. It’s so much fun to experiment with them that if I missed one in a level, I had a lot of Motivation to run again to find it. In short, miracles make the game.
It certainly doesn’t hurt that each world contains very different groups of enemies, which mainly include new enemies, but with some reminders to the two classics like the Cloud-riding Lakitus and deeper cuts like the Pokys from Super Mario Bros. 2.among the beginners, the cattails rush towards you and cannot But they can be mounted, which Wonder cleverly exploits. The dirty mouths, on the other hand, look cute, fresh and innocent – until they spot you, after which their gaping mouths open wide and devour you whole if you don’t jump very high very quickly. Moms, on the other hand, hardly pose a pressure outside of their difficult-to-overcome height, and I never got tired of clinging to their loose piece of fabric and making them forget about it. I hope we will see the flower kingdom again one day, because I don’t want this to be the only appearance of this new group of new interesting enemies.
In fact, we need the smelly badges
Another wrinkle in the Mario 2D formula is the badges, a group of about two dozen active or passive effects to unlock that you can choose at each level. Boosting Spin Jump allows you to press the right shoulder catch to effectively perform a double jump. Grappling Vine means that even Mario games now have grapples, Safety Bounce allows you to survive a fall in lava and Sensor Pings more often when you get close to key objects such as large purple coins and (especially) miracle flowers. These badges give you welcome control over how you approach the stages in the way that best suits your style of play, not to mention that they offer a bit of replayability as icing on the cake.
